Growing old

What a crock of rice.

Yeah you know what I am talking about.  Old baldy thought he had a shot with Rachel and he got thumped.  What me worry that a bald man Republican is gonna opportune himself into the pants of the most democratic female on the planet.  What could possibly go wrong?

Ok well I was just thinking maybe I should move to Japan.  Cuz they know what honor is.  Get ON HER and STAY on her.  Oh wait that's a  Republican talking.

If you watch the episodes of Menagerie from the original STAR TREK, and by the way those have been redone to be visually appealing to today's sci-fi fans, it shows Spock committing mutiny.  More than that it shows them go off to the planet Talos where the beings there, because there are no longer "farmable" goods on the surface, have retreated to the underground where what they do is capture people and form illusions and thereby entertain themselves while what they do is abstain from all forms of actual pleasure and ingest a liquid protein for sustenance all the while deriving pleasure from their captives' experiences.   They are telepaths but fact is they are nothing simply more evolved and controlled much like we would be if we would just use what we had for output instead of pleasure.

A girl lands on their planet and because they don't know what a regular people act like, they heal her as best they can and try to get someone for her that is similar in some way to the people she comes from.  So they capture Captain Pike and proceed to fill him with illusions of all sorts and he almost buys into it.   He almost goes along with the hunchback-damaged goods-underground girlfriend they set him up with.

Later they capture some more regular people because "you can't have just one" mentality starts to creep in.  In the end the entire affair is ended only after Spock admits to having brought Pike back to the planet he escaped to live out his illusion with the original girl he met the first time.

Pike had recently been in a terrible accident where all he could do is blip once or twice for yes or no and this while trying to rescue people that needed rescuing but which left him as an invalid.  It's a nice ending when he goes back to the "planet of illusions" to live out the rest of his life as a normal man with a normal girl.

I'm wondering who this Captain Pike reminds me of in the movie...
