Well I was watching Star Trek Generations for like the 20th time maybe more and it suddenly occurred to me where we are in the world. Not only is Gandalf dead and replaced by Saruman replaced by Gandalf who is locked in his tower, but all of the Next Generation cast is actually dead.
We saw it happen, but wait didn't Picard say that now there will be no more Picards and then he got taken to the energy ribbon and was able to bring back Captain Kirk to help save the universe... because of the ribbon.
I was watching once a brilliant series on Sci-fi channel and it showed this team of researchers on a different planet. They touch down on an alien planet and need to make a few adjustments to their ship before they go back. Just a few adjustments before they can take off. So they gather their resources and go out looking for some few supplies to help rebuild their ship. They have their weapons with them as they run into a small group of alien spiders. These spiders kill two of the away team but the people inside open the doors and manage to save the rest... and then we see one spider get just inside one of the pair of doors that lead inside.
The rest of the episode shows them telling the story of how they managed to defeat the spider and then how they struggled with the loss of their comrades. Soon after a bunch of debate as to how they will get supplies and after another attack of the spiders which now come more intensely, the crew decides to scrap the ship. The battle wages on and on and soon the spiders overrun and ruin the ship but not before ONE lonely crew member makes it to the escape pod.
The music chimes in, he rests in his little coffin-shaped escape pod that is shooting back to his base where he will be re-united with his family but at the cost of all the rest of his crew and what a story he will tell... but then the narrator comes in with an afterthought. "These are the things we tell ourselves when we are put to sleep" or some such and then the camera turns back to the ship and it shows not the destroyed ship ovverrun by spiders but the intact ship that was infact taken over by the one spider that was allowed inside, that coccoonned everyone and put them to sleep. The entire episode was just a dream... a fantasy he told himself when he infact was awaiting the day when a youngling spider would come and shuck his skull like an oyster.
So because I watched that episode I now realize the they are doing it again with Star Trek. The reality is that Picard never got away from the Nexxus. His attempt to win the fight that cost him his life is relived with one of his heroes there to help him, Captain Kirk. He wins the fight and is able to save the universe but Captain Kirk dies because after all there is only room on this planet for ONE captain of the enterprise.
We can even carry the fiction a bit further and we notice that all of the subsequent films are centered around Captain Picard and his foolish fantasies he creates to make up for missing parts of his life.
He battles THE BORG which ruined him in Starfleet because he could no longer be trusted. He struggles with revenge and finally kills the evil queen with the help of DATA who represents his latent homosexuality or like Spock for Kirk, that evil half of us that wants to do what is logical but that does what cannot or must not be done. (It's funny because Borg sounds like Berg and that's German for city so if you want to meet some people from the BORG just come to the berg hahaha... I know, not funny)
In the next episode of Picard's fantasy alternate reality we come to a planet that at the end of the movie allows him to live forever. Wow. And all he has to do is come back to the planet and get laid every now and then. "People do" he says and poof out goes Dr. Crusher ass first and if you ask me that should have been the first movie now that I think about it because Dr. Crusher, not unlike her name, is apt to frustrate the crap out of a guy... and Picard was probably quite tired of her. Lessee 7 seasons, no kissing or sex, they like each other a whole lot and we know the girl is getting some and we know more acutely the Captain is not getting any... trying to figure out if this reminds me 0f anyone.
And finally the third movie of Picard is if he was the son of evil. WHAT A LUXURY to have been born in another world owned by your enemies as a slave and to take them over. He is going a little nuts now because you will notice that he loses DATA in the process and for the first time he is forced to kill someone out of rage who is infact himself. DATA being the only person that can save him like Gollum's evil half teleports him back and neuters himself by dying and leaving a less sophisticated self in his place. Will Picard be happy in the next episode? Well there can't be a next episode because without DATA he can no longer get himself into trouble so it's coccoon time for him. All out of material. Waiting for that spider to come shuck his skull.
Never saw the sun shining so bright, never saw things, going so right, noticing the day hurrying by, when you're in love, my how they fly....
So what is the reality... the reality is Picard is dead.
